About Whole Foods Market

Whole Foods was founded in 1980 on the belief that where food comes from, and how it’s grown, matters. It meant creating quality standards, working with suppliers who achieve them, and sharing that information with our customers. And it radically changed the way people understood and shopped for food. The result has been the highest quality natural and organic products, an unmatched experience in every location.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Design, permit, manufacture and installation of eleven custom illuminated building signs for new ground up Whole Foods Market location in Long Beach, California.

Adhere to specific design guidelines as required by customer brand specifications, architectural design requirements as well as city planning sign standards. Blending manufacturing methods and materials typical to the industry.

Closely adhere to all UL, NEC, city, state and national building codes for manufacturing and installation of illuminated electrical outdoor signs.

Provide creative mechanical attachment methods as needed for various building finishes and architectural materials used in the construction of the building as well as mitigating the unique challenges of restricted access to many of the locations.

OUR SOLUTION:

Signs A, B, G and H. The sign application required a retainer-free face on custom fabricated 3” deep aluminum returns Illuminated with white led. Faces were constructed using ½” thick white acrylic with the edges routed with relief to allow the aluminum returns to be flush with the letter edge. Letters were installed using all thread structurally attached to wall and suspending the letters beyond the architectural wood slats. The installation of signs G and H were on the outside of an elevator shaft which required all mounting and electrical to be coordinated with the installation of the elevator mechanics.

Sign C. The sign application also required a retainer-free face on custom fabricated 3” deep aluminum returns Illuminated with white led. Faces were constructed using ½” thick white acrylic with the edges routed with relief to allow the aluminum returns to be flush with the letter edge. This sign was designed to be mounted to the top of an open canopy with mechanical attachments extending the full 46’ length of the sign at the bottom only which required each letter to be additionally reinforced with ¼” x 1 ½” aluminum flat bar for support. An electrical wireway was also fabricated to enclose all the electrical and power supplies for the letters.

Sign D, E and F. The sign application required a retainer-free face on custom fabricated 3” deep aluminum returns Illuminated with white led as well. Faces were constructed using ½” thick white acrylic with the edges routed with relief to allow the aluminum returns to be flush with the letter edge. These letters were installed flush to the building facias.

ENTRANCE sign. The sign application required a retainer-free face on custom fabricated 3” deep aluminum returns Illuminated with white led. Faces were constructed using ½” thick white acrylic with the edges routed with relief to allow the aluminum returns to be flush with the letter edge. The location for this sign was directly on a window mullion over the main doors. Only structure available was at either side of the door opening so the sign was mounted to structurally fabricated wireway that was able to span the windows and mount at either end of the raceway.
